BearsIllustrated catches up with Jake Lindsey

Baylor kept it in the family when they picked up Utah point guard Jake Lindsey, son of former Baylor player Dennis Lindsey. He was gracious enough to spend a couple minutes catching up with Bears Illustrated.

Baylor picked up a surprise commitment from Utah point guard Jake Lindsey. The 2015 guard is 6-foot-5, 175-pounds and rated a three-star prospect by Scout. He is also the son of former Baylor player Dennis Lindsey. Jake took a few minutes to sit down with Bears Illustrated and discuss his recruitment.

When did you receive your Baylor offer?

Baylor offered me after the LeBron James Academy. It was a high level of competition and I played pretty well, and Scott Drew offered me then.

What other schools were involved with your recruiting process?

I also had offers from Utah, St. Mary’s, Harvard, Tulsa, Columbia and Louisiana-Lafayette. North Carolina State called me last week, but did not officially extend an offer.

Why did you pick Baylor?

I think that their style of play favors me a lot. They run a lot of pick and roll, and I like passing off the pick and roll. Texas is always going to be home for me too, I have a lot of family that lives in the area. I originally was born in Houston and moved to San Antonio, before moving to Utah for my dad’s work.

What is it like having a dad (Dennis Lindsey, former Baylor player and current Utah Jazz GM) who is so involved with basketball?

It has its benefits, just with the people that I’m able to be around with his work. I’m pretty excited to be able to go to the school where he went. He never pushed me in my recruitment, I really wanted to go to Baylor.

For those out there who might not have seen you play, what is your game like?

I’m a big point guard, and I create well off the dribble for both myself and others. I think my best attribute though is my basketball IQ.

Do you consider yourself a point at the next level?

Yes, Coach Drew recruited me to Baylor to play point guard.

How do you see yourself performing at the next level?

It’s going to be different, but I’m not afraid. I’ve played against many different levels of competition. What some may not have noticed is that I play my best against everyone, but I tend to play better against the best.

Have you been to campus?

I’d been to campus when I was younger, but I had not been back in a few years. I had gone on an unofficial visit in August, which was my first time when it was like a recruiting scenario. I was actually visiting some family so it worked out perfectly for me.

Do you have any relationship with any Baylor players?

Well I met Baylor’s new point guard Lester Medford and Taurean Prince when I was on campus for my visit. I actually played against Prince my freshman year of high school.

Do you feel pretty solid with your commitment?

Absolutely, I’m shutting it all down. There is no way I decommit from here.
