Raymond Spalding commits to Louisville

2015 big man Raymond Spalding

Raymond Spalding, a 2015 big man, has committed to Louisville, he told Scout.com's Evan Daniels.

Spalding, a 6-foot-9 forward, is a Louisville native and chose the Cardinals over Indiana, Xavier and many others.

Indiana coach Tom Crean made Spalding a priority this month when he opened the July evaluation period scouting Spalding in Indianapolis at the adidas Invitational. Crean watched more of Spalding's games last weekend than any other head coach.

But ultimately, Spalding is a Louisville kid, and it's very hard to pull a Louisville kid away from Louisville. Rick Pitino and his program have had tons of success in the last few years, and adding former IU assistant Kenny Johnson to the staff certainly didn't hurt in the pursuit of Spalding.

Sure, in retrospect, it's easy to criticize Crean for spending so much time with Spalding, but I don't think fans should do so. Crean did a great job in the pursuit of Spalding and built a strong relationship over a period of time.

That's one 2015 big man off the board, but the Hoosiers have some other options. Among them: Stephen Zimmerman, Caleb Swanigan, Nick Marshall, and others. Thon Maker may also be a possibility if he reclassifies to 2015.
