Youngstown State head coach John Robic knew who his man was. Robic followed around the Ontario Cyclones AAU team in July at the Big Time and his diligence has paid off.

It’s cool to recruit in Canada these days. Prospects from the north seem to be committing at a pretty good pace this fall. The latest is 6-9 power forward Colin Laforme.

Laforme, a standout from Westdale High in Hamilton, Ontario, picked the Penguins over Toledo, Cleveland State and American, according to Lorne Clark of Hooprecruits.ca.

“Colin is best described as a face up forward,” Clark said. “He has a very good skill level and a great understanding of the game. He possesses a lot of perimeter skills and can really shoot it from the outside.

“He should be an impact player down the road for Coach Robic.”

After a nice outing with the Ontario Cyclones, we gave Laforme the highest mid-major rating possible. YSU landed itself a fine recruit in Laforme.
