Kuemper Will Stay Home

Austin Kuemper, a standout Portland (Ore.) Westview, is off the board and headed to the PAC-10.

Austin Kuemper had dreams of staying home and playing for the in-state school. On Tuesday those dreams became a reality as the 6-foot-9, 230-pound big man committed to Oregon.

"He's really excited about it and his family is excited about it," Kuemper's AAU coach Donald Wilcher told Scout.com.

Kuemper, who visited Oregon three weeks ago, also received interest from Washington State, Pittsburgh and majority of the WCC. According to Wilcher, proximity was a big factor.

"The thing with him was that he wanted to stay close to home," he said. "A lot of the schools in the mid-west weren't really an option."

"He's an Oregon kid," Wilcher added. "The new facility and coach Altman's style fits his game and just the dream of being a Duck."

Kuemper is the Ducks first commitment for the 2011 class.
