Smith-Rivera Shows Improvement
D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera has made noticeable changes to his game over the past year. A 6-foot-3 combo guard out of Indianapolis (Ind.) North Central, Smith-Rivera has visibly slimmed up his frame, while keeping his strength. His jump shot has improved and he cited his core as an area he's worked on. "I think I've evaluated my jump shot," the 2012 prospect told Scout.com. "I'm getting off the ground and have become more athletic and am becoming an all around better player. "I'm getting up and down a lot faster and I can really see a difference," Smith-Rivera, who runs with Indiana Elite-Team Indiana, added. College programs are noticing his improvements as well. Currently he has scholarship offers from Indiana, Purdue, Tennessee, Cincinnati and Xavier. Among the other schools showing interest in Smith-Rivera are Louisville, Kentucky, UNC, Georgetown, Villanova, Florida, Pittsburgh, Ohio State and Washington. "It's coming along pretty good and I have a couple visits coming up," Smith-Rivera said of the recruiting process. Smith-Rivera has already taken trips to Kentucky, Xavier and Indiana. He's also planning to visit Pittsburgh and Washington in the near future. As far as making a decision, Smith-Rivera may just be a 2012 prospect, but it's something that he's already thinking about. "I have," he said when asked about making a decision. "My parents haven't." "They just want me to be patient with it because some times I'm pretty gung-ho and do things," Smith-Rivera added. "But at the same time they want me to be patient and do what's right for me." Smith-Rivera did, however, say that he'd love to have his decision out of the way by the end of the year. "There's a lot of pressure, but I'm just going to take my time."
