Williams Recruitment Soars, Takes ACC Visit

Amir Williams

Scout.com caught up with 6-foot-9, 210-pound power forward Amir Williams, the No. 36 prospect in the 2011 class, to get an update on his recruitment.

Amir Williams couldn't have asked for much more out of his junior season.

Throughout his 28 game season, Williams averaged just over 15 points, nearly 10 rebounds and five blocks per game, while leading Detroit (Mich.) Country Day to a state title.

"I did great," Williams said of his season. "From last season, I improved a lot. I was a lot better since last year. My point total, rebound and everything just went up."

Now the 6-foot-9, 210-pound big man is trying to carry over his strong play to AAU ball, where he'll run with The Family.

"So far it's going good," Williams said following one of his game this past weekend. "We got off to a rough start at Boo Williams, but we finished that tournament 3-2, but so far we've come to play here at King James."

While he's out and about traveling for AAU ball, Williams' recruitment is picking up. According to Williams, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Miami, Kentucky, Purdue, Duke, Texas, Pittsburgh, LSU and Wisconsin are the schools showing him the most attention.

"More schools are coming into the picture every week now so I can't really narrow my list down," Williams said. "More and more schools are coming in."

Williams has taken a number of unofficial visits to date. He's visited Michigan, Michigan State, Miami, Ohio State, Cincinnati and most recently Duke.

The Blue Devils, who scored Shane Battier from Detroit Country Day, jumped into his recruitment towards the end of his high school season and have made a quick splash. He visited the Durham (N.C.) campus last week.

"It was pretty good," he said of the trip. "Overall it was a great visit. I got a chance to talk to the head coach, the players and walk around and see the facilities. It was overall a good visit."

Williams and The Family will be back in action this weekend at the Spiece Run N' Slam.
