In his weekly recruiting column, Dudley E. Dawson catches up with EPC junior hoops star Rashad "Ky"…
Madden's Junior Journey
Ky Madden's season ended slightly prematurely. After averaging 25 points a night for East Poinsett High, the Arkansas junior's team fell in the state semifinals. The 6-foot-5 wing is an interesting prospect. We list him as a small forward but there's a chance he grows out of that position. "Hopefully as a point guard," Madden said. "I've been trying to develop into point guard these last few years. I've got to work hard, get my ball handling better, my IQ and my leadership." Madden, who watches Magic Johnson and Chris Paul videos, doesn't get to play the position full time with his high school coach but when he looks into the mirror, he sees a point guard. "I'm the tallest guy and it's a problem and then they see me dribbling the ball and bringing it down. With my high school team I go wherever I need to." Madden sports offers from Memphis, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Baylor and Florida. At this point, Madden's list is comprised of schools close to his home. Memphis, which is about 30 minutes away, is the school closest to his doorstep. Madden is honest about his desire to remain close to home. "I don't know. Maybe when the time comes, distance may not be a factor. Maybe it'll be only a few hours." Madden's sister is a freshman basketball player at Baylor. His father went to Arkansas State and was a football standout. He's got the genes, the talent and the upside. It'll be on display in June at the NBAPA Top 100 Camp.
