Lake Clifton won the big city title last year but lost the rematch this week. Digital Harbor, the team the Lakers disposed of en route to their 3-A title, enacted revenge and won 72-64.
Josh Selby, Lake Clifton's new addition, went for 36 points but the Lakers fell to 2-3 on the season.
DeShaun Thomas has a new career high: 52 points. Over the weekend, he led the charge in a win over Muncie Southside. He now has 2,543 career points as he made 20 of 27 shots in the win.
Keith Appling and Pershing rallied to beat Southeastern Tuesday night. The Michigan State signee pumped in 26 points for the Doughboys. Southeastern's Percy Gibson was limited to 11. He told the Detroit Free Press, "Southeastern will never ever be ready for the Pershing Doughboys."
Scout.com Top 10 senior Tobias Harris went off Tuesday night. He scored 28 points and pulled down 18 rebounds in Half Hallow Hills West's 72-53 destruction of Copiague. Harris' brother, Tyler Harris, had 16 points.
Jayvaughn Pinkston and Bishop Loughlin rolled up All Hallows 69-49. Pinkston barreled his way to 22 points. Senior guard Brandon Frazier also scored 16.
Houston Yates set a state record as it beat Lee 170-35 Tuesday night. The game featured a near fight and the lopsided win will undoubtedly raise questions of sportsmanship and running up the score. Yates, which apparently kept pressing, led 100-12 at halftime. Joe Young was the local paper's athlete of the week after averaging 32 points a game, including 43 against Huntsville Butler.
Kyrie Irving came into the game against Union averaging 27 points. He finished with 18, the win and a potential problem. Irving's running mate, Michael Gilchrist was injured. Gilchrist had been tossing in 14 points and 8 rebounds.
Norfolk Christian got the best of Benedictine 63-56 behind 19 points and 12 rebounds from James McAdoo. Mike Gbinije was held to 8 points for Benedictine.
Marquis Rankin and Vance lost to Lake Norman and senior Paul Larsen 72-68. Rankin rallied for 12 points and 12 assists but Larsen went big with 33 points and 15 boards. Vance sophomore Braxton Ogbueze scored 27 points.
It wasn't a perfect body of work but Mt. Carmel beat Richards 84-73 behind guard Tracy Abrams who went for 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
G.W. Danville's stint as the No. 1 team in Virginia will end next week. Danville lost 76-53 to Patrick Henry. Barksdale had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Unsigned senior Terrence Jones dropped 41 points a week ago in a Charles Schwab Invitational game. He hung the digits on Rainier Beach.
"He hurt his knee on a block/charge call in the first quarter (Tuesday) night," St. Pat's coach Kevin Boyle said. "He went to the ER with his parents but we don't know the extent of the injury yet."
