Swoope Garners New Interest
Erik Swoope, 6-4 SR PF/SF North Hollywood (Calif.) Harvard-Westlake, is one of the top uncommitted prospects in the West Coast class of 2010. Swoope is a terrific athlete – very explosive leaper – and he plays with great energy. He can defend multiple positions and he's an outstanding finisher around the basket. His jump shot is still a work in progress, but he's got a chance to be a very good low-post scorer down the road. A smart kid with a very good work ethic, Swoope possesses a high upside. I spoke with Swoope recently and asked about the schools that have been in contact with him. "I just spoke with Miami today," said Swoope. "UNLV has been showing the most consistent interest. Utah just started showing interest. Portland has offered and I've also been hearing from Washington State. Miami is coming to play Pepperdine at the end of the month and they're going to come see me play then." I asked Swoope what he is looking for in a school. "It's mainly about a good mix of academics and athletics," said Swoope. "I want to go as far as I can in basketball, but the academics are a major priority. The location isn't a big deal. I'd like to play in a top conference, but I'm going to go with the school that has the best opportunity for me." Swoope said he may make a decision relatively soon. "I think I may decide sometime around the beginning of the new year," said Swoope. Swoope said he has a 3.2 GPA.
