Doug Wojcik was what we call in the recruiting business, in “stalker mode.” The scene was the Reebok All-American Camp in Philadelphia last July. The target: Jordan Clarkson, a 6-foot-3 wing out of San Antonio (Tex.) Wagner.
Wojcik spent every day in Philadelphia. He was at every one of Clarkson’s games and a certain wing took note of the head coach’s commitment. “That’s the only (coach) I knew that was doing that,” Clarkson said.
For Wojcik’s steadfast commitment, Clarkson gave Tulsa his first official visit and then Wojcik reciprocated by being in the prospect’s home the opening day of the evaluation period.
“They really impressed me in the summertime coming to all the games. They came the first day they could come out (Wednesday). We built a good relationship over time.”
The relationship survived a visit to SMU last weekend and derailed a trip to Texas A&M set for the following weekend. Texas Tech and TCU were in the mix as well.
The 20-point per game scorer as a junior knows exactly how Tulsa sees him. “They’re going to use me as a combo guard running the point and the two.”
