Big East Squad Scores Pledge From Jones

Jumail Jones

Jamail Jones has been ready to commit for quite some time. On Sunday he finally made it official. He'll lace them up in the Big East.

Buzz Williams and his staff at Marquette targeted Jamail Jones. They followed him throughout July and just a few weeks after the last evaluation period, the 6-foot-6, 180-pound wing gave the Golden Eagles a verbal pledge.

"Everything I look for in a school is right there in Marquette," Jones told Scout.com. "Since I went up there I've just been in love."

Jones, a standout at Decatur (Ga.) Green Forest Christian Academy, strongly considered Mississippi State, Xavier and Oklahoma, but committed to Marquette early Sunday morning because he knew that was the place for him.

"I've known for a while that I was going to Marquette," Jones said. "I just wanted to make sure that it was the best fit for me and they could help me be a successful guy, not only in basketball, but also as a young man too."

"I was on the phone with one of the coaches one night and I remember talking back and forth and I said to myself that, that is where I really want to go. I'm really tight with the coach staff."

Marquette now holds three verbal commitments for the 2010 recruiting class. Jones joins four-star prospect Aaron Bowen, of Jackson (Fla.) Samuel W. Wolfson, and JUCO standout Monterale Clark.

During his junior season, Jones averaged 25 points and 11 rebounds a game for Green Forest.
