Gelaun Wheelwright, the 6-0 junior guard from Corona (Calif.) Centennial, became the first recruit to verbally commit to new USC Head Coacb Kevin O'Neill today...

Gelaun Wheelwright, one of the best guards in the west for 2010, verbally committed to USC.

Wheelwright, the 6-0 combo guard, was offered a scholarship by USC and San Diego State a week ago.

His high school coach, Josh Giles, told the Los Angeles Times: "It came down to they really wanted him."

Wheelwright wasn't deterred by the potential NCAA sanctions looming for the USC program. Giles told the Times: "Whatever issues USC might have Gelaun feels will be done by the time he's there."
