McDonald's: Stephenson Announces He'll Wait

Lance Stephenson

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Lance Stephenson was supposed to announce his college decision on Tuesday, instead he held a press conference, and didn't decide.

St. John's, Maryland and Kansas will have to wait a little while longer.

Lance Stephenson, a top 10 prospect, announced at the McDonald's All-American Media Day that he has not come to a college decision.

"Me and my family and I have decided that we are going to wait it out and I'm going to make the best decision for me and my family," Stephenson said to a large group of media members.

"It wasn't a change," he added. "It's just been hard for me and my family to make a decision. I'm just going to wait it out."

Stephenson's recruitment has been an interesting ride. A number of schools made their presence felt early. The local school, St. John's, has made its play. Maryland made a late entry, while the presumed favorite Kansas has made an impression on him as well.

The 6-foot-5 guard out of Brooklyn (N.Y.) Lincoln said his school list is set on three, but he needs more time. The plan was to announce his decision, but instead he announced that's not announcing.

"This is my life," Stephenson explained. "I want to go somewhere that I'm comfortable and I can play at."

So when will a decision come? It's unknown. Stephenson didn't give a timetable.

"I don't know right now," he said. "Me and my father are going to talk about it. Hopefully [I'll make] it soon."

He also put to bed the rumor that he would go overseas. Stephenson said the same route that Brandon Jennings took, isn't for him.

"I'm not worried about overseas. I'm worried about college. I think college is the best choice for me and I want to play there."

So for now Norm Roberts, Gary Williams and Bill Self will have to wait, as one of the nation's top prospects struggles to a decision.
