One of the top junior wings in North Carolina is back on the big board and sure to draw recruiting interest.
Jay Canty, a 6-foot-5 small forward/shooting guard out of Ragsdale (N.C.) High, committed to High Point on Oct. 8. Last week, following the coaching change at High Point, Canty rescinded his verbal commitment.
“I just felt like I didn’t know what to do,” Canty said. “I didn’t get a call so I really didn’t know what to expect.” Canty had forged a close relationship with the staff, including assistant Marlon Sears.
“I felt like I built a relationship with the coaches,” Canty said. “I was looking forward to playing with those certain coaches.”
Canty averaged 22 points for Ragsdale this past season.
Canty, who has made strong strides academically, also committed to the Panthers because of its proximity to his home. As for considering them the second time around, that’s to be determined. “Right now I don’t know. I’ll have to talk to my parents.”
