Jordan Farmar, one of the elite point guards in the west, is looking to leave Southern California. We spoke with him recently about his options...

We spoke with Jordan Farmar, 6-1 JR PG Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft, last night and got an update on his recruitment.

Farmar told us that he'll take a second unofficial visit to Gonzaga in early January. He's also already taken an unofficial visit to Stanford. We asked for his thoughts at this point and he said, "With Gonzaga, the fact that they're in the WCC is a consideration. I want to play against the best competition -- if they were in the Pac-10, they'd probably be my clear leader. But I enjoyed myself when I went up there, I like the staff and I got a chance to hang out with some of the guys who are already committed. And Gonzaga does play a tough non-conference schedule against good competition. With Stanford, it's hard to say no to the education. I have to think about what's best for my future, but I didn't have quite the same feeling there that I did at Gonzaga."

We asked Farmar about the issues that he'll consider when making his choice. "Good academics, the guys I'll play with, the lifestyle around the campus and the coaches," said Farmar.

Farmar indicated once again that he'd like to leave the Southern California area. "I want to go someplace that's at least like six hours away or so," said Farmar. "Stanford, Oregon, Gonzaga, Arizona....someplace where I can be on my own."

We asked if he was thinking about going away, but still staying on the West Coast. "It doesn't really matter," said Farmar. "UConn, Kansas...I'm interested in those schools as well. I've had some mail and email with UConn."

Farmar went to the recent Oregon/Pepperdine game and we asked for his impressions of the Ducks. "I love their style of play and I like Ernie Kent," said Farmar. "I'm interested in them."

Farmar said that he plans on making a decision prior to his senior season and possibly in the months after the July evaluation period. "I can take official trips starting in January, so I'll have a chance to see the schools and then sit down and see what the best situation will be."
