Brandt Will Be Spring Prize

Angus Brandt

If Angus Brandt wanted, he'd have excellent choices in the early. However, the Aussie needs more information and as a result this Top 100 big man will be a big spring prize!

We'll be following this one through the spring, mate.

Australian born power forward Angus Brandt, a 6-foot-9 senior at Lake Forest (Ill.) Lake Forest Academy, checked in at No. 86 in the Scout.com Top 100. After arriving in the U.S. this July, Brandt headed for Vegas where the genie was let out of the bottle.

"It's been insane since I arrived here and completely more than I expected," Brandt said.

What colleges heard – and then saw in Vegas – was a big, skilled four-man with a deft shooting touch. Those who scrambled to see him weren't disappointed. Among the earliest suitors were Oregon State and Colorado, two programs Brandt has promised visits to.

"They're programs are really appealing to my style of play. The coaches are great people and I've heard nothing but good things about those schools."

Brandt isn't your typical recruit. As Arizona State, Washington State, New Mexico, Michigan, Illinois, Georgia Tech and Valparaiso become more familiar with him, he's doing homework on them as well.

Living in Australian didn't afford Brandt the opportunity to familiarize himself with the college game. "It all depends on what set up you had for TV. If you had satellite TV you could see the games but I didn't have that. I really only watched one or two games so I didn't have an idea what schools were what."

Brandt's process is going to flow into the spring. He wants to visit schools once the season is underway so he can augment his education with learning about the programs up close. Most of the schools on his list have seen him play and offers are on the table.

"The whole process is completely new. At the moment its fine and I'm enjoying the attention. Every now and then I'll get sick of it but its fun at times."
