Marquis Horne got the ball rolling and now D.J. Cooper has put stability in the backcourt. John Groce's maiden voyage at Ohio is looking good.

Hales Franciscan point guard D.J. Cooper, became the second player to commit to John Groce’s Ohio program in the Class of 2009. Marquis Horne, a 3-star prospect, has company in the form of D.J. Cooper, Scout.com’s No. 21 point man in the class.

“The coach was working me and the players were cool,” Cooper said. “He emphasized a new offense. The coaches know it and they’re graduating a point guard, so that’s a good thing.”

Cooper was evaluated strongly this past summer by a handful of high-major programs. A natural leader who raised his game with the Mean Streets AAU team, he’s got a winning resume and should help ease the transition of a new situation in the backcourt.

“I think we’ll be young but good. We’ll have a lot of freshman. I’d like to come in and make an impact and play right away.”
