An injury has Shaunessy Smith on the shelf. The scoring wing won't be able to show what he can do…
Smith Sets Visits, Has A Leader
One name you didn't hear in July was Shaunessy Smith. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Noxubee County (Miss.) High was absent from the summer scene. Scout.com's No. 70 prospect in 2009 was rehabbing an injury suffered in the spring. Naturally, Smith had a tough time missing out on the last action prior to his senior year. "It was hard but I got used to it," Smith said. A scoring wing, he was posted up at home and during the month, only one school saw him. "Clemson came and saw me and that was it," Smith said. "I was able to shoot a little bit." Smith credits the Tigers attention to detail and remembering about him last month by giving the them a slight edge in his recruitment. "I'd say Clemson (leads) but I can't really say for sure. Clemson's been leading the whole time just about. I have a relationship with the coaches and I can see myself playing up there." Offers from the Tigers, Mississippi State and Southern Cal dot his radar. Plus, others are looking. "I've got two (official visits) set up already – Southern Cal and Baylor. USC is probably the 13th and Baylor is October 11. Clemson and Mississippi State are there too. Memphis just started recruiting me this summer."
