Leader Emerges For Udofia
Mfon Udofia, Lithonia (Ga.) Miller Grove's 6-foot-1 point guard, is fresh off a strong showing at the Chris Paul Elite Backcourt Skills Camp. With July looming, we put it to the 62nd rank player in the country: how much does he think about recruiting? "I try not to think about it to tell you the truth," Udofia said. "I try to go out there and play. I'm going into my senior year, it's my last year of AAU and it makes me think about it." Udofia indicated that he's "wide open" a term recruits often toss out there to the media. What exactly, to Udofia, does "wide open" mean? "Wide open means the same thing since Arkansas at Real Deal. If there's a school you want to recruit you and they pop in, I might consider that school. The schools I want recruiting me now are recruiting me so it's cool now." Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, Memphis (no offer) and Kentucky comprise his list. Cincinnati and Marquette are calling. One program has the pre-summer lead and its Georgia Tech. "They consistently call and email. They stay on top of me and recruit me hard. At this point, Georgia Tech leads." Udofia, an exceptional student, wants more than merely the basketball experience out of college. He's a big picture thinker and sees the end game. "Basically everybody wants to make it to the NBA. I want to get there as well. As a backup plan, it has to be school. If you go to a great school you go there with lawyers and maybe the next Bill Gates. You never know. School is important to me." Thus far, Udofia has visited Tech unofficially. He'll see Virginia, Marquette and potentially Cincinnati unofficially this summer as well.
