The Kansas Jayhawks added another piece to their backcourt puzzle. Tyshawn Taylor, a 6-foot-2 combo guard out of national champion St. Anthony’s in Jersey City, N.J., picked the Jayhawks over Georgia Tech.
“I think it was the basketball atmosphere,” Taylor said. “Coming from a basketball school, I think that was it. I’m a player and that’s what I’m about; that’s what Kansas is about. That atmosphere that the people showed me, I got so much love from everyone.”
He averaged 11.6 points per game as a senior. The Jayhawks are losing pieces to the draft and Taylor sees his role clearly. “I think they see me as playing a combo guard but I can run the wing. I’m a bigger guard so I can defend a bigger guard.”
Before picking Kansas, Taylor was part of Marquette’s recruiting class. Once Tom Crean dipped over to Indiana, it allowed Taylor to open his deal up and evaluate the process a second time.
“I don’t think it was easier (the second time around). I knew some stuff and knew I had to make the right decision. I think the second time around I had bigger name schools on me and I wanted to take my time. It was a tough decision.”
