Can you feel the energy? It's almost time for traveling team season to kick into gear. With the AAU upon us, it was time to refresh our Top 100.

The scenic ride to the Tidewater area for the Boo Williams Invitational has significance over at Scout.com. The event, for us, marks the beginning of what is going to be a long traveling team season which won’t conclude until August 1st.

With the dawn of a new era in AAU basketball, we thought it was the appropriate time to take another stab at the Class of 2009 and reorganize our Top 100. Actually, prior to now, we only graded the Top 75 prospects in the class.

Keep in mind names are going to move and shake with lightning speed on this list. If you’re a player and you find yourself included in the 100, congrats! However, don’t get too comfortable and let your guard down because this test run is only an experiment. The real examination comes at events throughout the country in April and beyond.

For our top spot we kept Atlanta’s Derrick Favors on the first line. A monster junior season combined with the high regard we have for him in all aspects of his game is enough to give him the title. Renardo Sidney, Lance Stephenson, Xavier Henry and perhaps DeMarcus Cousins may have something to say about the ranking.

Closing out the Top 10 lengthy Dominic Cheek, scoring maven Kenny Boynton, ultra-fast John Wall, versatile Jamil Wilson and talented Daniel Orton.

How’s the group look overall? That’s to be determined. We’d like to see some point guards emerge and separate themselves from the group. This position has to be a little deeper than it appears on paper. Ditto for the small forward contingent.

The depth of this class, heading into the spring, appears to be in the bigs. The power forward contingent accounted for 34 slots in our Top 100. By comparison, we could only squeeze in 13 points, 22 shooting guards, 15 small forwards and 16 centers.
