Despite an outstanding, not to mention gutsy, performance at the Marshall County Hoopfest, Pinkneyville (Ill.) High wing Kyle Cassity is not receiving any volume of offers.
“Nothing’s really new,” Cassity said. “There’s not really much around here to you help you get your name out so you have to play good when you have the chance.”
Against Joe Jackson at the Hoopfest, Cassity did just that; he played well. In the game Cassity dislocated his thumb but returned to excel. Since his injury continues to nag him.
“That was a day I played good. That’s something I tried to do everyday. I’d say it was a little above average; I played pretty good that day.”
St. Louis, Albany, VCU and Michigan have seen him. South Carolina called as did Vanderbilt. SIU-Edwardsville, UMKC and Arkansas State have offered; he visited the Kangaroos early.
Michigan saw him Friday night and requested more tape. In three quarters of action Cassity had 20 but the competition was not good and he didn’t play the 4th quarter. “My coach kept me in as long as he could because he knew (Michigan) was there.”
Cassity averages 18.5 points this year. At this point he’ll look at who’s interested in him. “I want to be able to enjoy the guys (in the program) and enjoy playing for the coach. It’s got to be somewhere I like being.”
