Khalif Ford, 6-0 SR PG, Diamond Bar (Calif.) High, said he has a few schools that are recruiting him, but he’ll more than likely wait until spring to decide.

Pepperdine, UAB and Long Beach State are the three that I’m the most in contact with,” Ford said. “I was talking to Nevada and they had offered, but they just got a commitment from a point guard. I’m also talking to Boise State, and they’ve offered.”

Pepperdine, UAB and Long Beach State have yet to offer, Ford said. Pepperdine already has a commitment from San Diego point guard Shaun Davis, but the Waves are looking for a backup plan in case Davis doesn’t qualify academically. Ford said that Pepperdine has been upfront with him about it. “They’ve told me all that,” Ford said. “That’s why it might be another good reason for me to wait until spring to decide.”

Ford said he intends to visit Pepperdine and Long Beach State unofficially soon, but doesn’t have any official visits set. He had planned to go to Pepperdine’s Midnight Madness event, but couldn’t make it.

Having torn cartilage in his knee during his junior year and undergoing surgery in March, Ford said he was still recovering during the summer when he didn’t play well. “I came back too soon,” he said. “It was swelling up and I was sore every day in the summer after playing. But I’m healthy now. I’m doing therapy, working out on the knee and it’s still coming along, and I feel a lot more comfortable with it. But since I was injured during the summer I think it’d be better if I waited until spring to make a decision about a college, so that coaches can see me in my senior year when my knee’s healthy.”

Ford said that Pepperdine, Long Beach State and UAB all said they could possibly offer him and take a commitment from him in spring after they see him play this year.

Ford has a 3.0 GPA and scored a 980 on his SAT, but will take it again to try to improve his score.
