2009's Lockett Falls For Pac-10 Program
Arizona State continues to reinvent its program with good players. Trent Lockett, a 6-foot-5 swingman from Minnetonka (Minn.) Hopkins picked the Sun Devils over Iowa State, Wisconsin and Marquette. The Sun Devils courtship of Lockett began in the spring and carried right over into the summer. "We went down for elite camp at Arizona State because some guys we knew out on the West Coast were really good friends," Marquise Watts, director of NetGainSports told Scout.com. "We get down there and it was a great initial visit. Trent fit – skill wise – well with their players." Lockett got hurt in the summer and didn't play in Las Vegas. However, ASU cranked up their recruitment of Lockett anyway. "He got hurt and didn't have a great July," Watts said. "Coach Sendek and Coach Phelps stuck with him and when school started they just kept coming back to see this guy a few hours, once a week. They offered and at the time Trent only had one high-major offer; that was Iowa State. Then he got Marquette and Wisconsin. From that point on, (Arizona State) laid everything out. There wasn't one question that was left unanswered." Lockett visited Tempe last weekend and it turned out to be the deciding factor that pushed him over the edge and sent the commitment into the works. "It was an unofficial visit but those guys made you feel like you were on an official. The biggest thing besides the staff was the president and AD. They did a great job meeting with Trent and he loved the players." Lockett sports a 3.92 GPA in the classroom. "He's a guy who knows what he wants and has a great grasp on everything." Lockett is the No. 2 in his class at Hopkins.
