Gibbs Commits To Zags
Grant Gibbs, a 6-foot-5 point guard out of Marion (Iowa) Linn-Mar High is headed to Gonzaga. According to the Spokesman Review, Gibbs picked the program Tuesday night.
“I’ve actually been a huge Gonzaga fan since I was a little kid,” Gibbs told the paper. “When I came out there for my visit, I felt like it was the perfect place for me.”
Scout.com ranks Gibbs as the No. 12 point guard in the nation. He runs with Martin Brothers Select and can actually play both guard positions. A 3-star recruit with the potential to crack the Top 100, Gibbs is a major scorer for the Zags.
Iowa State, Wisconsin, Northern Iowa and Indiana State actively pursued him. He averaged 15 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds last season.
Badgers Get Commitment From Markolf
Another big man is off the table. This time it’s Ian Markolf, of San Antonio (Tex.) Winston Churchill, and he’s headed to play for Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin Badgers.
Markolf, a 7-foot, 255-pound center, had scholarships offers from Kentucky, Iowa State and Baylor, but picked the Badgers because of the campus and his desire to play for Coach Ryan.

“It was just the whole package,'' Markolf told Rob Schultz, of The Capital Times. “It was a great feeling, it felt like a nice fit.''
With Markolf’s commitment, the Badgers have completed their 2008 class. To go with Markolf the Badgers also hold verbal commitments from Jared Berggren, Jordan Taylor and Robert Wilson.
