Dion Waiters, a member of the Class of 2010, is headed to the Big East to play for the Syracuse Orangemen.

The Syracuse Orangemen joined with other high-major programs on a growing list: schools who own commitments from the Class of 2010.

The Syracuse Post-Standard, in Wednesday’s edition, reported that Dion Waiters is headed to play for the Orangemen. Waiters is a 6-foot-2 scoring machine was one of the better young guards at the June Nike Hoop Jamboree.

“He made the decision based on their style of play,” Aaron Abbott, an assistant at Neumann-Goretti and coach with Team Final told the paper. “He’s a very dynamic player and Coach Boeheim lets his guards play.”

Of course, Syracuse has a Neumann-Goretti connection as Antonio Jardine and Rick Jackson will be freshmen under Boeheim this fall.

Waiters did not play high school ball as a freshman but did attend camp at Syracuse and the Orangemen actively pursued him this spring.

When the Scout.com 2010 list gets updated, he’ll be a four-star recruit. Waiters is the 12th recorded commitment from the Class of 2010.
