Top 25 Releford Ends Recruitment

Travis Releford

One of the top wing players in the nation made his decision Tuesday night. Travis Releford, Scout.com's No. 25 overall prospect and No. 7 shooting guard took his name off the available's list.

The Kansas Jayhawks secured a commitment from a homegrown Top 25 prospect Tuesday night. Travis Releford, Shawnee Mission (Kan.) Bishop Meige shooting guard Travis Releford is on board with the Jayhawks beginning in the fall of 2008.

"It's a real big deal," Releford said. "It's a good school and a great basketball school. At the beginning when they first got on me I was seeing who else would recruit me. They just stuck around and have been there the most. That's where I feel most comfortable with."

Kansas was serious about developing a relationship with the young man. How serious? "They were there since Day One," Releford said. "They were at my first high school practice."

As junior, the 6-foot-4 Releford pumped in 19.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists for his high school team. He runs the AAU circuit with K.C. Pump ‘n Run and L.J. Goolsby. Releford, a national recruiting target, was being aggressively pursued by KU, Missouri, Oklahoma and a most of the Big 12. North Carolina was interested but most observers believed – and they were proven correct – that Releford would not stray far from Big 12 land.

"I think he's got a chance to be really good," Pump ‘n Run coach L.J. Goolsby said. "Travis is one of those kids who can develop at the collegiate level because of his game. He does so many little things well and he'll continue to get better."

Releford checks in as Scout.com's No. 25 prospect in his class. He stacks up nationally as the No. 7 shooting guard in the nation.
