Leslie McDonald knows that the success Thaddeus Young achieved has made things easier on one hand, but more difficult on the other. The 6-foot-4 sophomore got his first real taste of under-17 competition this past weekend and he wasn't intimidated at all.

Leslie McDonald wasn’t intimidated despite playing up in the 17’s this past weekend.

``I think I did pretty well,” said the 6-foot-4 sophomore from Memphis. “I saw some things I should work on, but overall I was happy with how I played.”

McDonald and his Memphis YOMCA teammates ended up making it out of bracket play before losing to Team Melo at the Boo Williams Invitational.

Williams has already been hailed as the next big thing to come out of Memphis.

``I think Thaddeus (Young) made it easier in one aspect, but harder in another,” McDonald said. “It puts more pressure on me, but it also puts more of the spotlight on Memphis because of what he’s done.”

McDonald, 16, played both forward spots in high school and averaged about 20 points per game this past season at Briarcrest High.

McDonald can step out and make shots from mid-range and also from long distance. He’ll need to work on his ballhandling in order to become more of a threat beating defenders off the dribble.

McDonald said that while it’s still early in his recruitment, he wants to go somewhere that fits his style of play.

He said he’s already fielded offers from Memphis, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Alabama – and that Florida, UConn, Georgetown, Ohio State and Duke has expressed early interest.

``Right now I have no idea when I’ll commit,” McDonald said. “Probably at the end of my junior year.”
