A pair of Fork Union guards recently announced their collegiate plans.
Donovan Monroe, one of the best available combo guards, picked the College of Charleston over the weekend. The commitment gives Bobby Cremins another guard he can count on to score it next season.
“They got a good player,” Fork Union coach Fletcher Arrit said. “It’s not the first great player he’s signed but he’s got another one now. He can sign some guys.”
Monroe was a key addition for the Cougars. Arrit thinks Charleston scored a major coup in getting Monroe, especially since he’s been expanding his game since the end of the season.
“Every now and then there’s a guy that jumps up a couple of levels. This guy has been playing point every day since the end of the season. He’s doing a great job playing point guard.”
Speaking of coups, the Cougars also scored a big time junior college pledge. Dustin Scott, a 6-foot-8 power forward, is headed to play for Cremins.
Scott, who averaged 14 points and 8 boards, is the all-time leading rebounder in the history of Tallahassee Junior College.
Another Fork Union standout recently pledged to a Southern Conference program. Donald Sims, a 6-foot-1 combo guard, gave a thumbs up to Appalachian State.
“I think Donald Sims is as good as they come. We didn’t have a great inside game so the guards go under the radar. The guy can score it.”
