Patterson Close To Trimming List
Patrick Patterson made history last weekend. As a senior, his Huntington High team captured its third consecutive state championship. "We made history with this one," Patterson said. "No one has ever won three times in a row in 3-A. We'll probably go down as the best team ever." Patterson, who was late year's state player of the year, had some help this season. "It was a lot easier than the last two because of playing with O.J (Mayo)." With the drama of the state championship run complete, it's about time to narrow that list and make a collegiate decision. "Within this week I'm going to cut it down to three," Patterson said. "I'm at 6 right now and I'll cut it down to three. We'll talk to the family, write some stuff down and eliminate three. In the second week of April I'll decide." Florida, Kentucky, Duke, Wake Forest, Virginia and West Virginia anxiously await the official word. One of the unique aspects of the Patterson decision is that whichever town the forward picks his family will follow. "My mom and dad said they'd move to whatever college I go to," Patterson said. "That's what they told me. No matter where I go they'll move there. If I go to West Virginia they'll stay here in Huntington." There is widespread speculation that the Gators are moving up the list. Makes sense since they had him on campus for their game against Kentucky. However, Patterson isn't ready to go down that road. "I really enjoyed my visit down there but it's still the same. The visits help me decide, get information and let me see it over again. I've been to UF twice, UK five times, Virginia three times, Duke twice and Wake Forest and Virginia a few times."
