Providence has gotten Greedy.
Tim Welsh and the Friars landed a key commitment on Thursday as New Yorker and Notre Dame Prep (Mass.) physical wing Jamine Peterson (aka Greedy) committed to the Big East school.
``He’s gone to a few of their games and he really got along with the guys,” Notre Dame coach Bill Barton said. “Plus, he liked the fact that it was a small school.”
``Providence has a history of graduating kids from Notre Dame Prep,” Barton added. “I think it was a good choice.”
Both Ryan Gomes and Marcus Douthit both went from Barton’s program to play for Welsh.
Peterson is a tough, hard-nosed 6-foot-5 ½ wing who does most of his work on penetration and in the paint. He’ll need to improve his perimeter shot.
``Greedy is a lot like P.J. Tucker, just not at that level yet,” Barton said. “He rebounds and attacks the basket with anybody. Providence assistants Allen Griffin and Steve Demeo did a terrific job.”
