Notre Dame Prep started the season as the Preseason No. 1 and Bill Barton's club, with a little help from Jamine "Greedy" Peterson, remained on top after a pair of impressive victories at the National Prep Showcase this past weekend.

1.  NOTRE DAME PREP (MASS.)
Record:5-0
Comments:It was Jamine Paterson and not Michael Beasley (Kansas State) who took the starring role for Bill Barton's team this past weekend in wins against Stoneridge and Hargrave. Peterson had 33 and 9 boards against Stoneridge and 24 points and 8 rebounds in a 90-89 win over Hargrave. Beasley averaged 15 points and 9.5 rebounds in the two wins. The boys from Fitchburg won despite shooting poorly from long range and from the foul line. The bottom line is they played hard.
2.  BRIDGTON ACADEMY (MAINE)
Record:3-0
Comments:After a second-half runaway from New Hampton, Whit Lesure's club pulled off a mild upset against Patterson and then pulled away from American Christian for a 96-82 win. Greg Hill finished with 23 in the first two victories while Justin Burrell had 22 against Patterson and Rashad Green scored a team-high 20 in the American Christian game.
3.  PATTERSON SCHOOL (N.C.)
Record:10-1
Comments:Chris Chaney's group cruised to eight straight wins against non-descript opponents to begin the season before going up against two-time defending NEPSAC Class A champion Bridgton Academy. Bridgton pulled off the mild upset despite 22 points and a half-dozen trifectas from Jeremy Hazell. Tirrell Baines had 18 points and 10 boards as Patterson rebounded with a win against St. Thomas More and Hazell had 34 and a handful of 3's in a victory over New Hampton.
4.  SOUTH KENT (CONN.)
Record:4-0
Comments:Raphael Chillious' club dominated in games against a MCI and Massanutten Military Academy. Manuel Cass (UTEP) led the team with 18, Calvin Haynes (Oregon St.) added 17 and Matthew Bryan-Amaning (Washington) finished with 14 points and 7 boards against MCI. Bryan-Amaning had 23 points and 9 rebounds in the win over Massanutten.
5.  BREWSTER ACADEMY (N.H.)
Record:5-0
Comments:This could be Jason Smith's best group since he took over in Wolfeboro. Craig Brackins (Iowa State) had 28 points and a half-dozen trifectas in the first half in a rout against Lee Academy, then had 29 points and 7 boards in a blowout against Massanutten. Emmanuel Negedu had 28 points and 13 rebounds in a 101-78 victory against American Christian.
6.  WINCHENDON SCHOOL (MASS.)
Record:4-1
Comments:A season-opening setback to Lee Academy seemed to motivate Mike Byrnes' club as they bounced back with four straight wins - including a pair against Hargrave and Fork Union. Villanova-bound guard Malcolm Grant scored 23 in a 80-72 win over Hargrave and he added 26 in a victory over Fork Union.
7.  HARGRAVE MILITARY ACADEMY (VA.)
Record:4-2
Comments:After wins against Guilford, Milestone Prep, Eldon and Roanoke College, Kevin Keatts & Co. took a hit with a pair of losses at the National Prep Showcase. Dorenzo Hudson (Virginia Tech) scored 22 in a loss to Winchendon and led the team with 25 in a 90-89 loss to Notre Dame Prep.
8.  NORTHFIELD MOUNT HERMON (MASS.)
Record:2-0
Comments:This is clearly Bill Batty's best team in his tenure. Jerrell Williams (La Salle) put up 30 points and 12 boards and Tyrone Nash (Notre Dame) added 14 in a rout over Our Savior New American. Unsigned senior guard Gary Correia had 14 and Williams had another double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) in a 67-39 victory against Champlain St. Lambert.
9.  ST. THOMAS MORE (CONN.)
Record:3-0
Comments:Jere Quinn & Co. split at the National Prep Showcase, beating Fork Union, 67-63 before dropping a 86-82 contest against Patterson School. Junior forward Devin Ebanks scored 20 points and had 7 boards in the win and had 20 points and 13 rebounds in the loss to Patterson.
10.  DECATUR CHRISTIAN (ILL.)
Record:8-0
Comments:Alan Huss' program has plenty of talent with Iowa commit Beas Hamga and Iowa State-bound Lucca Staiger and unsigned senior Darrington Hobson - and the team has started out with eight consecutive wins - including victories over Eldon, Cornerstone Christian, Milestone Prep and Boys to Men.
