2008's Wilks Reaches Verdict
The Cincinnati Bearcats have one less scholarship to give out in the Class of 2008. Saturday night, Pioneer Christian Academy power forward Darnell Wilks picked Mick Cronin's team. "He's going to Cincinnati," Pioneer coach Carl Reed said. "We're excited about it. That's the best fit for him and that's what he wanted to do all along. He can now get focused on his academics and continue as a ballplayer." Wilks, who ran with the Southeast Elite AAU program, moved from Missouri to Tennessee this off season. He's expected to incorporate himself into a few roles for the Bearcats. Tennessee, UTEP, Auburn and Maryland showed interest in him. "He's so versatile at 6-foot-8, 205 he'll be able to fit in well. He'll play several positions for them." Like a lot of kids his age, Reed said there's room for improvement especially on the defensive end of the court. "His defensive intensity can improve. He can be a lock down defender but he can be a top of the line defender. Most kids at this stage want to be all offense but he can really set himself apart by making a true commitment on the defensive end." The Bearcats are expected to have a ton of scholarships to award in the Class of 2008 and Wilks commitment kicks off what should be a big recruiting season for Cronin's crew.
