June Is Valuable Month For McCamey

Demetri McCamey

Demetri McCamey, one of Scout.com's Top 100 players, has a plan in place for June. The St. Joseph's star will gather his advisors, make up a list of prominent schools and hit the road to take a few unofficial visits as his Illinois Wolves club rests up for July.

One day, Demetri McCamey will be one of the most physical point guards in college basketball. The 6-foot-3, 200 pounder out of Chicago St. Joseph is a tank. He's the primary ball handler for the highly successful Illinois Wolvers program and an ever improving prospect.

At first glance, with his strong body, you're more inclined to think linebacker or small forward than point guard. "I like the point guard position very well. I just like to play basketball. It don't matter what position I play as long as we win."

Wining is something the Wolves do at a pretty good clip. These guys measure their weekends by Final Four appearances. Unfortunately, at the Tournament of Champions, they came up a game short of the semifinals but it was a heckuva run, complete with fun endings.

For McCamey (No. 81, Scout.com), now that May is over, it's time to get a little serious about the business of recruiting.

"Everything is going real good now," McCamey said. "I'm not looking at certain schools and I'm going to wait until after this tournament. I don't know what schools are recruiting me (hardest) right now. Me and my coach are going to wait until June because I'm not playing the whole month of June."

McCamey's next task is to separate the pretenders from the contenders, find out who is really chasing him hard. Once he does, the guard says he'll use the month of June to see some campuses.

"I'm going to take some (unofficials) but I'm not for sure (where) yet because I don't know what schools are recruiting me. Me and my coach are going to talk during June and then I'll take some unofficials during that period."

After the tournament, McCamey stayed in the state an extra day and he and pal Evan Turner went West to Winston-Salem where they took in the campus of Wake Forest.

In addition to the Demon Deacons, McCamey was feeling recruiting love from DePaul, Illinois, Indiana, Villanova, Miami, Virginia and Notre Dame. The ‘Canes, Cavs, Deacons, Hoosiers and Blue Demons have offered.
