Mike Capocci, a 6-foot-6 small forward who runs with the Illinois Defenders in the spring, committed to Northwestern after receiving interest from Wisconsin, Marquette and Stanford.
“It’s a little relief to get it over with,” Capocci told Scout.com. “It’s nice to have a place and know where I’m going.”
Capocci expects to man the small forward slot in the Wildcats offense but isn’t overly concerned with labeling his position. “I think in Coach Carmody’s offense everybody does a little of everything. He doesn’t like to give out positions.”
As a junior, Capocci scored 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds a game. Picking Northwestern was an easy call for him.
“I think it was their strong academic tradition. It’s security if basketball doesn’t take me past college. I can get a great job out of that university.”
