Booker To Stay In The South

The Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Mississippi will stay in the South. David Booker made his decision this week after the Alabama-Mississippi all-star game.

After scoring 14 points and grabbing 6 rebounds in the Alabama-Mississippi all-star game, power forward David Booker of Moss Point High in Mississippi, committed to the Charlotte 49ers. The prospect confirmed the news to Scout.com Saturday afternoon.

Numerous programs began pursuing Booker (at one time Northwestern led) during his monster senior season. In fact, Booker put up 27 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists a game. For his efforts, he was named his state's Gatorade Player of the Year.

Charlotte cranked up its pursuit of Booker within the last 2 months and got it done. "They did a really good job," Booker said. "They said they wanted me and they came to see me and showed a lot of interest in me."

The 49ers have a need for his services and sold him on what his future looked like under the direction of Bobby Lutz. "They'll use me as a shooting forward. They run a four out and one in and I play post and they'll run me out of motion in one-on-one situations against my defender because they want to use my scoring ability."
