Top 10 Prep Poll

Paul Harris

With Bridgton pulling the upset against No. 2 Patterson on a last-second heave from Keaton Grant, we unveil the latest Top 10 Prep Poll.

1.  NOTRE DAME PREP (MASS.)
Record:24-3
Comments:Despite a couple of bad losses - one to MCI and another to CCRI (that's Community College of Rhode Island), the Crusaders still sit atop the rankings. Paul Harris (Syracuse) and Lazar Hayward (Marquette) both had big games against Stoneridge - Hayward with 23 and Harris with a triple-double.
2.  PATTERSON SCHOOL (N.C.)
Record:33-2
Comments:It appeared as though Patterson would move into the top spot, but a last-second loss to Bridgton in Rhode Island last weekend kept them at No. 2. Roburt Sallie finished with 20 in the loss to Bridgton, but it was Keaton Grant who hit the game-winner as time expired.
3.  HARGRAVE MILITARY ACADEMY (VA.)
Record:23-2
Comments:Hargrave will gets its first "legitimate" test in a while when it faces No. 2 Patterson on Feb. 24 at a neutral site. Tyler Smith, Vernon Macklin & Co. continue to roll against Massanutten, Lynchburg College and UNC JV squad.
4.  BRIDGTON ACADEMY (MAINE)
Record:20-7
Comments:Keaton Grant sank a desperation 3-pointer as time expired to knock off No. 2 Patterson in Rhode Island. Grant finished with 25 points and also had 13 in a win against Worcester Academy. Whit Lesure's club has also posted recent wins against South Kent and Winchendon.
5.  ST. THOMAS MORE (CONN.)
Record:26-7
Comments:Jere Quinn's team got off to a hot start, but the parity in the league has caught up to Quinn and the Chancellors. They have lost games recently to Worcester and Lutheran Christian Academy and knocked off Northfield Mount Hermon and South Kent. Antonio Pena hit a buzzer-beater to knock off Bridgton late last month.
6.  LAURINBURG INSTITUTE (N.C.)
Record:21-1
Comments:The first blemish for first-year coach Billy Reid was a loss to Genesis One last weekend in Rhode Island. However, Laurinburg had knocked off Genesis earlier in the month and they also registered recent wins against Marianapolis and IMG. Reid promises a more challenging schedule next year.
7.  NEW HAMPTON (N.H.)
Record:21-9
Comments:It's a close call between New Hampton and Brewster for the seventh spot, but we'll give it to Jamie Arseanult & Co. because of their two wins against Brewster - the most recent a 68-62 victory earlier in the month. Brady Morningstar (Kansas) scored 22 and Kyle Moore added 13 in the team's most recent game, a 91-67 win against Tilton.
8.  BREWSTER ACADEMY (N.H.)
Record:16-6
Comments:Jason Smith and his team had won four straight before a loss to New Hampton. Dodie Dunson scored a team-high 22 in a 86-73 victory against Proctor Academy and the unsigned senior guard finished with 26 points in a 96-69 win against Worcester Academy.
9.  MASSANUTTEN MILITARY ACADEMY (VA.)
Record:20-4
Comments:Bruce Kreutzer got 13 points and 17 rebounds from Ryan Washington in a victory against Fork Union, but Massanutten came up short in a road game against No. 3 Hargrave. Scott Grote added 20 points, 7 boards and 5 assists against Fork Union.
10.  LUTHERAN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY (PA.)
Record:30-6
Comments:The boys from Philly got off to a slow start this season, but have come on lately. Tim Burns scored 15 and Mike Scott added 11 points in a 62-56 win against Genesis One. Lutheran got the best of No. 5 St. Thomas More less than 24 hours later.
Next Five:

Northfield Mount Hermon (Mass.)

Winchendon (Mass.)

Champlain St. Lambert (Montreal, Canada)

Boys to Men (Ill.)

Genesis One (Miss.)
