Sixteen college freshman-to-be, 17 rising high school seniors and two rising juniors make up the list of 35 18-and-under hoopsters scheduled to be in Colorado Springs this weekend for the USA Basketball Junior World Championship Qualifying Team tryouts.

Of the nearly three dozen invitees, 10 were tabbed Parade All-Americans this spring, seven played in the McDonald’s All-American game, and four were USA Today All-Americans.

A 12-member team will be finalized at a training camp July 14-22 in Miami. The eight-team COPABA Men’s Junior World Championship Qualifying Tournament is set for July 24-28 in Venezuela. Four countries will qualify for next year’s FIBA Junior World Championships in Malaysia.

Oregon’s Ernie Kent is the team’s head coach. Davidson’s Bob McKillop and Rutgers’ Gary Waters are his assistants.
