Cavs Beat The Clock With Big Man
The term sleeper comes to mind when discussing Virginia's latest commitment. Andy Ogide, a 6-foot-8 power forward, signed with the Cavaliers just as the early period expired. Never heard of him? That's OK, his coach explains. "I knew he would (go high), he's a diamond in the rough," Dallas (Ga.) Paulding coach Paul Boone told Scout.com. "The kid is 6-foot-8 and can run, jump and shoot and he's got a 3.8 GPA. I think Virginia has itself a real diamond in the rough." Last year, Ogide scored 18 points a game. This season, he's off to a strong beginning. "We played four games this year and he scored 31, 33 and 34 points and on Tuesday night we scored 36 points and he had 19 of them," Boone said. The Cavaliers were alerted to the forward, traveled down to see him, set up a visit and got it done. Miami, Arizona State, SMU, Tulane and Georgia all saw him this fall. Georgia and Furman received unofficial visits. "Virginia offered him early and I told him to do it. It's a no-brainer to play in that league at the University of Virginia. It'd be hard to say you could do better. Then he went and visited and liked it. I knew he would, it's a beautiful place." Boone said a change in how Ogide plays, following his junior season, is one reason why he signed with a big time school. "One thing that held him back was that some coaches might have thought he wasn't tough enough. We discussed that as a junior and he's stepped up that part."
