Junior Dupree Makes Verbal Pledge
On Tuesday, Braxton Dupree will answer questions about his collegiate decision. However, as of Monday the word had leaked out, Dupree was headed to College Park to play for the University of Maryland. "He's going to oral to Maryland," Calvert Hall head coach Mark Amatucci told Scout.com on Monday. "I think he's been a big Maryland fan, always has been," Amatucci said. "Seeing the success that Juan (Dixon) had down there had a lot to do with it. I think his family has followed Maryland and they like the location and the school and they like Gary Williams. It's not something that just happened; he's been looking towards Maryland the last few years." After averaging 9 points and 5 rebounds as a sophomore, Dupree hit his stride. His first made a national splash at the Nike Hoop Jamboree and then followed it up with a strong effort at the AAU Nationals. Clearly, the best is yet to come for his developing big man whom Scout.com tabbed as the No. 47 prospect in his class and No. 5 center overall. "He's still go two years left. He's got soft hands and he's got quick feet. It's up to him and he's got to take advantage of it." Soft hands is a calling card of the big fella. He seems to get his big paws on everything and once he asserts himself offensively the sky is the limit. The commitment is a significant one for the Terrapins. A pledge from a Top 50 prospect is a strong beginning for a program that will have no less than 6 scholarships to award in the Class of 2007.
