Theo Davis is in Philadelphia instead of Iowa State - and that's not good news for opposing prep schools. The big man leads a talented group at Lutheran Christian Academy.

Darryl Schofield is hoping to pick up where he left off last year at Lutheran Christian Academy (Pa.) and he just may have the horses to do it.

Schofield’s biggest name in this year’s group if clearly 6-foot-9, 230-pound power forward/center Theo Davis, an Iowa State signee who didn’t qualify to play for the Cyclones this season.

However, the guy that has Schofield raving is 6-foot-5 junior wing Kashief Carr, a South Philadelphia product who is athletic and can also shoot from the perimeter.

``He brings it,” Schofield said of Carr. “He’s from South Philly and you see it because he fears nobody. He plays hard all the time and whenever I need him, he comes through.”

Davis and Carr will likely be joined by 6-5 ½, 220-pound Ameer Ali, who played at Simon Gratz (Pa.), on the frontline.

The backcourt will likely feature 6-foot-4 shooting guard Steve Hassell, a lefty catch-and-shoot guy who has already committed to High Point, and 6-foot senior floor leader Mike Scott.

``Mike’s a throwback,” Schofield said. “He’ll fit us perfectly because he’s a pass-first guy whose improved every aspect of his game, but he realizes that in order for us to win he’s going to have to be a setup guy.”

Schofield will have plenty of bodies coming off the bench – including former Chester High (Pa.) guard Devon McLendon, 6-9 junior Ervin Spruell, 5-11 senior point guard Tim Burns and 6-foot-6 senior forward David Burton, who committed to St. Francis (N.Y.).

Other depth will be provided from 6-5 senior forward Malik Perry, junior forward Matt Robertson, 5-9 point guard Darrel Mosley, 6-5 senior wing Brian Carroll, 6-foot guard Jamie Boyer, 6-3 junior guard Bakari Smith and 6-4 ½, junior small forward David Tairu.

``I really like our versatility,” Schofield said. “Last year we knew what we were going to get. This year anyone can do it at any time. I can switch guys up and go big or small.”

``We’re going to spread the floor and that’ll create matchup problems,” he added. “We’re going to stick with our pressure and push the tempo.”
