Atlanta Westlake High power forward Jerome Burney is headed to the ACC … again. The one-time Miami commitment is going a little north this time around.

Jerome Burney has his dream. Always a fan of the ACC, he’s now a card carrying member of the league.

“As a matter of fact, I always wanted to go to the ACC when I was little,” Burney said. “I grew up watching Duke, Georgia Tech and North Carolina play.”

For a while, it looked like Burney would be a Hurricane. He gave a spring commitment to the ‘Canes but later rescinded his pledge after the summer. He committed to Maryland this weekend.

After visiting College Park, there was no doubt where he wanted to go.

“I don’t think there was just one selling point,” Burney said. “Landon Milbourne is going there and that’s comfortable. Gary Williams is a great teacher and he’s also been able to develop players to go the NBA. He’s been (at Maryland) longer than I’ve been living. The style of play is proven to win games. When you combine all those together you come up with a great program.”

At 6-foot8 1/2 , Burney’s a big kid. He’s a slender so adding muscle mass and weight will be priorities.

“Basically my role will be to play ball – rebound, block shots and do whatever I can to try and help them win games.”
