Harvest (Ala.) Sparkman is home to Murray State’s latest commitment. The Racers got their man in J.R. Strowbridge.

Mick Cronin was all over this one and just this week, J.R. Strowbridge reciprocated. The 6-foot-1 point man out of state semifinalist Sparkman High committed to Murray State after being recruited by Southeastern Louisiana, Troy State and UAB.

“I think in conversation with him, he was really impressed with the facilities,” Sparkman Coach Luther Tiggs said. “Plus, I think he fits in with their system of play. They’re up tempo and that’s similar to the way we play. He felt like Murray State was the best school in the OVC and he wants a chance to play in the NCAA Tournament.”

Strowbridge helped his team to the state semifinals last year.

“What he brings to the floor for us, in terms of leadership and his ability to make plays, he’s a complete player. I’m biased but in my opinion, he’s the best point guard in the state of Alabama in terms of the package. He sets the tone for our offense and provides leadership.

“I think Murray State just got a steal.”
