UAB Lands Two In-Staters
A couple of former Birmingham Raptors are transforming into UAB Blazers. This week, according to Raptors coach Keith Mims, two kids who at different times laced them up for the Raptors, committed to Mike Anderson's crew. Curtis Nickson, a 6-foot-9 center out of Eutaw (Ala.) Green Co. and Taurus Dortch (pictured), a 6-foot-1 scoring guard out of Birmingham Ramsay, committed with days of each other. "It's been quite a week for UAB," Mims said. Both players wished to remain close to home and Mims cited distance as factors in their decisions. "We felt that UAB would be an excellent program for (Nickson) because of their style of play. He liked the system, he liked Coach Anderson and he felt that he could come in and play early because UAB is graduating six players this year. "Curtis is extremely coachable; he's got a heart of gold." Dortch, meanwhile, is an athletic guard who could find himself playing a combo role. He's also the kind of aggressive player UAB loves to employ in its pressure defense. "UAB's style fits Taurus Dortch to a "T." I really think he's going to do well for UAB." So, will the Blazers continue to stay hot in the state? Stay tuned because Demetrius Jemison just might be next!
