Edwin Ubiles wanted to go somewhere that he could make an impact soon after hitting campus as a freshman. The 6-foot-6 senior forward, who hails from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., should have that opportunity at his future destination.

Edwin Ubiles will remain close to home and have a chance to be an impact player from Day One.

The Poughkeepsie, N.Y., native, who will spend his second season at St. Thomas More (Conn.) under Jere Quinn, committed to Siena after a visit this past weekend.

``I really liked the visit - the staff, the players and the school itself," Ubiles said. "It's not too big and it's somewhere I'll be able to go and play right away."

Ubiles said he also considered Rhode Island and UTEP.

``It’s a huge get for Siena,” Albany City Rocks coach Jim Hart said. “He was also recruited by Iowa State, Seton Hall, UMass and St. Bonaventure. Siena usually doesn’t get those guys. It’s a huge, huge get for them.”

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound forward is a versatile scorer who finishes well in transition – but had an inconsistent year with the Albany City program. He started off well in April, but struggled at times in July.

``He obviously has the talent to play at a higher level, but the only knock on Edwin is that he doesn’t do it for 40 minutes,” Hart added. “But he’s gotten better and better over the last few years. He’s more focused and is really starting to put it all together and a lot of the credit has to be attributed to Jere Quinn.”

``He will have a chance to play a lot at Siena,” Hart continued. “He may go in and get the opportunity to be the guy and that’s when he’s at his best – when he’s the focus. This guy will have a chance to be a 2,000-point scorer in the MAC.”
