Jerome Burney Looking - Again
It wasn't all that long ago that Jerome Burney's recruitment was closed. Now, after receiving a call from Miami coach Frank Haith, the 6-foot-9, 210-pound Austin Westlake (Ga.) standout is back on the board. ``My parents and my high school coach had talked to Coach Haith while I was playing at the Super Showcase in Orlando, but they didn't want to tell me and mess up my play," said Burney, who played with the Georgia Stars. "When I got back, my dad told me what happened." ``Miami was looking for a bigger player – someone 6-10 and about 250 or 260. I'm only about 210 pounds and more athletic that what they need." Now Burney's list includes a wide variety of schools all the way from ACC schools such as Georgia Tech, Maryland and Clemson to schools like Tulane, Jacksonville and Georgia State. Burney also mentioned Alabama. ``It's hard because I know I'd be getting more playing time at the smaller schools," Burney said. "I think I could start right away or be the sixth man coming off the bench." ``Or I could try and go to a Georgia Tech, Maryland or Clemson and not play as much right away, but play at a higher level." ``The school that really sticks out right now is Georgia Tech," he continued. "They're close to home and I have a little brother whose 2 years old and I'd like to see him grow up." Burney, who averaged 14 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks as a junior and scored a 970 on the SAT and sports a 3.5 GPA, won't rush into a decision the second time around. ``Right now I'm open to everyone," Burney said. "I probably won't make a decision until Late November or early December."
