At the Pangos Midnight Madness event in Las Vegas, Robert Garrison confirmed the hot news that had been spreading since Thursday morning: he’s going to UConn.
“I was expecting it but I wasn’t expecting it as soon,” Garrison said of his college choice. “I thought maybe after a post grad year … I had a great opportunity and I took advantage of it.”
Garrison, a 6-foot-1 point who hails from Niagara Falls, N.Y., figured he spend next season honing his skills at a prep school. Then, about a month ago, Connecticut told him that they were watching his development and might need another guard. At the same time, Garrison was beginning to elevate his play.
“It’s a great compliment,” Garrison said. “They looked at 15 point guards and said I was No. 1.”
Most guys who commit this late in the process are coming in to practice. With recent developments at UConn, playing time at the point guard position might be more plentiful than originally expected.
“They’re not bringing me in to fill a spot and sit on the bench.”
After the summer Garrison’s had in which he boosted his stock you would expect him to think exactly that way.
