Burney runs with the Georgia Stars organization. His traveling team coach Norman Parker, confirmed the news Friday evening.
"Miami has been very diligent in recruiting him," Parker said. "From Day One they've been persistent. That really weighed heavily on his mind in the end."
Known for his long, athletic frame, Parker says Miami is getting a guy who plays even bigger than his size. "They're getting a player that has a great upside," Parker said. "He's got a lot of potential. Like a lot of high school players, he needs some coaching and work but he's got a lot of tools."
The Hurricanes have been active this spring and summer. In addition to the early run on 2006 commitments, the Canes hold a pledge from in-state guard and Top 20 sophomore Edwin Rios.
