Boston College and nearby Providence both picked up backcourt help with the Eagles landing Tyrese Rice for this upcoming season and the Friars getting an early commitment from an underrated guard.

Boston College already has a replacement for departing guard Steve Hailey while Providence stayed local and got going in the Class of 2006.

The Eagles, who are headed to the ACC this season, will add Tyrese Rice, according to sources close to the program.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Rice, who scored 2,328 points in his career at L.C. Bird High (Va.), also considered Wake Forest.

Rice is an explosive lefty who will give Boston College a scoring option in the backcourt, something Al Skinner’s club desperately needed last season.

Providence got a commitment from Newton North (Mass.) rising senior guard Corey Lowe, the backcourt mate of the more heralded Anthony Gurley.

Lowe has flown under the radar, but picked up recent interest from N.C. State, Stanford and BC – and was also being pursued by Boston University, Northeastern and Binghamton.

Lowe averaged 19 points and 5 assists this past season while teaming with Gurley to lead Newton North to its first-ever state title. Lowe will add toughness and a guard who can shoot from long range – as well as run a club.
