Russell Mackins (2007), SF, Trigg Co: It’s his first season with Trigg, having spent his freshman campaign at Cairo (Ill.) High. Mackins is a 6-foot-5 small forward in the making. Athletically built and active with a good court awareness, he’s a guy you’ll be hearing plenty from in the future. Comfortable to mid-range, Mackins should develop into a high-major player. He had 16 and 12 in the win.
Ashton Farmer (2005), PF, Charleston: The Arkansas State signee went for 26 points and 9 rebounds but it wasn’t enough as his team fell by 10 points. A face-up power forward, Farmer will fill the stat sheet up quickly. He did a nice job against Mackins as he put 3 of the sophomore’s 4 fouls on him.
Randon Cavette (2006), PF, Graves County: This football standout has a chance to develop into an undersized power forward. Clearly frustrated by the lack of touches early, Cavette got it going in the second half to the tune of 26 points, 8 rebounds and incredible 7 blocks. There wasn’t anybody in the game his size (6-5, 225) and he made Massac County pay on the inside where he’s got nice hands.
Jeremy Jones (2006), PG, Trigg Co.: We first saw him here last year and liked him. He went for 20+ in the win and is a potential mid-level player provided he advances his game. For instance, Jones has to learn to value the basketball. He’s a talented and quick guard who can get himself and others shots if he learns to slow himself down, change speeds and take care of the rock.

Mackins said its way too early for him to even have a big list of schools. So far he’s been on the campuses of Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky. … Speaking of Western Kentucky, the Hilltoppers sent assistant Cypheus Bunting to check on Cavette, Mackins and Jones. Meanwhile, Murray State sent assistant Chris Goggin for the same reason. They were the only schools in attendance Thursday evening. …
Oak Hill worked out in the auxiliary gym at Marshall County High and much to our surprise, guard K.C. Rivers was running with the team. Coming off an ankle injury Rivers is working out but won’t get cleared to play in games for another two weeks. … The 5,500 seat Reed Conder Gymnasium at Marshall County High was ranked as one of the 10 best places to watch a high school by USA Today this past year. …
